Sanderman I think you are way off. any more then 3% in the FXO and its VERY hard for even myself to keep up with good RB4 XRT drivers, Esp given the start for FWD. Its not just a case of making it slower.. it needs to be ever so slightly faster to claw back lost time from the start of a race.

*edit*

Those that think FXO is too fast but you want to drive it, why not just restrict it yourself ? Its not that hard, the options are there to use. PLus i think the more people do it the more will follow (but maybe thats being too wishful)

Why LFS
For me its.

LFSWorld
TBO
LFS and its Developement.

I am quite sure that everyone who enjoys LFS, will have their own reasons.

Quote from mr_x :Question... Have you EVER played another game, EVER?

It should be "any other" rather then another. (I think)
Quote from mr_x :
Ultimate fanboy of the year award right here!

There is a an award that could be made for you mr_x
Quote from mr_x :
I particularly like - Best multiplayer - no lag.... what the feck? Play rfactor online, touch another car lightly and amazingly it DOES NOT go into space like they do on LFS... LFS is down to LAG.

LFS with full grid of learning drivers that are not randomly brake testing each other, on a server built in 1991 with a 33.3k modem maybe, but i dont see that many space collisions TBH with the type of vehicles i use, and yes like you say its down to lag to an extent & speed of impact and area.
You should know this.
Quote from mr_x :
Also the Best Graphics... Just no... Honestly... NO.

Best graphics... He might have a low spec PC, did you think about this Chris ?
I would say for quite a percentage, but i could be wrong, that LFS is adequate, and quite beautiful in places.
Also just to add, Velociround posted in this, and like myself, he is talking about his experience not yours.
Quote from mr_x :
I am quite interested to see what you have to add to that as you suggested at #15. ? See what else i can laugh at.

Quote from Scawen :I followed this thread because it was mostly quite interesting.

I kept my eye on this also, hoping its stays a worthy debate.

I think alot of people regardless of invlovement with the developement of LFS, do feel at times intimidated by the possible reactions that occur in the forums here, I wish i could put myself in your shoes for a day, just to see how it feels to read some of the thoughts people share with each other, on somthing shaped and crafted by myself and other collective indviduals within the team.

Could i reamain calm, would i be able to bite my tounge , id like to say i could.. but sometimes i really could scream (actually i do sometimes)
and i do wonder if you have any hair left (as babies also have damn strong grip)
But its not all bad there are regulars that do make me smile and there are the posts that really get you thinking, or realise your not the only one with that same hope.
There have been points throughout my relationship with LFS (yes i do feel connected to this sim wether its driving the RB4 (yes FXO kapput, in garage for repair) or talking with people i've met along the way, in IRC, IM or in here the forums.
Ocassionally in the past I perhaps felt things slowed down, regarding the proccess of developement, but i really do understand that life and having a good balance between with all that it encompasses, is essiantial to happy living.
I've in the past changed jobs for much less pay, or less stature or responsabilty, for the "happy living" equation. There comes a point where the stress just isnt worth it. For myself the less stress the better, i enjoy what i do more .. thats about it really, things just happen more naturally.

I could carry on, but again, quoting you
Quote from Scawen :
I'm concerned to post in it

Sometimes its not what people say, its what they dont

Quote from Hyperactive :Only thing I can add is that the driver in front should show by his body language that he won't be letting you pass easily. There are some nuances to it but mostly it is down to putting the car on right place on the track. If the driver behind is in no place to overtake you may still need to turn into some corners earlier (late apex) or not using all the road on the outside of the corner entry because sometimes passing is really just a question of getting next to you going into the corner.

As much as close racing and passing is about keeping your own pace up it is also about showing it clearly that the door is shut. If you leave the door open the other may use it and if you try to close it too late the chances are that collision is unavoidable. Keep an eye on your mirrors and you may be able to see the possible collisios before they happen.

There is also the tactic of showing yourself on the mirrors all the time and pressuring the opponent to leave the door open. Sometimes it is really hard to tell if the driver behind you is going to dive-bomb or is just bluffing but most of the time it should be easy as the difference between a dive-bomb and bluffing is the excessive speed that the dive-bomber has. It is also worth noting that the person behind you may be able to brake a lot later than you and carry more speed through corners.

By far the hardest part in close racing and especially in defending is to know how much room there actually is. This is mostly down to being able to see and "know" where the other guy is and knowing where you are in relation to him. If you don't know where the other guy is you can't block him. You don't need to see the opponent all the time, just anticipate his moves the best you can and use the mirrors more to check that he really is there instead of searching the other guy from your mirrors. It is also about focusing on the right stuff at the right moment. Going three wide into a corner while being in the middle truly puts you skills and senses to test.

Took the thoughts and words out of my mind & mouth.
Great post hyperactive

Racecraft is somthing that really takes time to learn , knowing the fast lines is one thing , knowing racing lines and defensive moves and tactics is somthing completely different.
Adapting to the various styles and techniques that drivers use also is a factor. I think thats why racing with a grid populated with a field of drivers that have experience and know each other will, inspire some truly epic races.

*edit*

Credit to Becky also, nicely detailed OP.

100points to your 58 i think it was Danowat. But in a few races that i had i did notice that i on average collected higher points then those competeing in the FXO.

I could be mistaken and that the climbing through the field gave me the bonus points im not sure.

Although lerts has produced some quite bizzare threads i always find them unexpectedly logical, fascinating and creative.

@Lerts
I would go as far as saying that how you see yourself projected in the essence as sperm racing describes how you see yourself (as we were all sperm & eggs once) in the world of LFS new, fresh and racing to the inevitble finish line dead or alive.
The analgy itself is quite interesting and quite clever, as modern understanding dictates natural selection.
The wormholeracing might be interesting if we could just find one to do a test drive in
As for freud's opinion .. i dont have a clue.

But it would lead me to suggest (simply)
with evidence provided in this thread.
That its not the view that your use its how you are looking at that view, breaking down the visual elements, how they are related to your input and persona. This is what seems to be the question.
Still a quite a reasonable OP.

Quote from Becky Rose :ironically I decided to hop onto race 2 and have a go tonight....

I've had few laps/races there again recentley, its not been to bad, and from all acounts seems to be more active. Glad to see its finally Back to TBO again
I mentioned in a thread in the CTRA section about the restart period.. Hopefully SamH is looking at that.

About the track
Editor ... wicked words, when put together, even more so. Although Not still sure why you brought this up as the closing point of your OP. Definately a tin of worms opener that subject.

As for the Ethos vs Moaning subject. No matter what it is people will moan about it. Its human nature, Even more so when you factor in LFS's Dev proccess. With the openess of Vicc and Scawen, the bored vocal minority have and do like to repeat themsleves. Whats more frustating is the opinions of those who have been around for more a few years, understand the ethos, but then start personal & ignorant, sniped opinions on how LFS should be and where its failing.

But thankfully it is a very very small minority of individuals. That seem to have an blinkered opinion on things LFS related. These things can be overlooked for the user, but i can imagine the frustration and annoyance it might create for the mods/devs.

If i had to post on every subject that had me rattled or foaming ... I'd be at around 5000 posts now

So to end this one i'd just like moan about one thing

There are not enough days in the week!

Quote from DeadWolfBones :btw, anyone who really enjoyed the mindbending time travel aspect of Donnie Darko should ABSOLUTELY give a little movie called Primer a look. Best sci-fi film to come out in ages, and it was made for $7,000.

Great film , quite difficult to follow.
Donnie Darko for me is the benchmark film of the last decade imo.

Quote from Paranoid Android :In bruges is very good! Been a long time I've enjoyed every line of the dialogue in a movie!

Great Choice of actors for that film, good chemistry and great story.

Simply amazing.

Agreed, If you have not seen this film then your missing one of the best films of recent times. If you like to think about what you see.

One film that sticks in mind of recent and again is quite focussed on dialouge and reality, is waiter or ober

Ahhh ok.
I agree with the organsation and setup names. But the main point i think is the simple improvement of just adding the title of the track in the garage screen. This to me makes sense, isn't hard to impliment, and will help newcomers and those with short term memory i would like to think.

Your memeory should be running at 400mhz , AMD64-3200 is 11x200
You need to to set ram to run at SPD and with a 1:1 ratio or select the correct speed. I would first advise that you make a note of CMOS reset location and your current bios settings before altering BIOS, unless you are comfortable with this.

*edit but make sure your ram is DDR400*

Quote from March Hare :
I know the type. They are so used to hotlapping that they are not able to adapt to other drivers on the server being slower than they are. In other words: Those who can't race.

mm i know plenty of hotlappers (racers), and most of the time the real hotlappers have zero problem racing as they know the track car very well.

So i take offense to that comment. (and no doubt many hotlappers also)

People "driving by themselves" would of worked ok, but you had to go point a finger

Also perhaps the redone cockpits causing more overhead perhpaps ?

I would test 2 seperate installs of LFS one version Y and your current one. Just to rule out that possibility.

According to the internet Dell dimension is :
Intel Celeron D 330 (2.66GHz) Processor
512MB PC3200 DDR Memory
80GB 7,200rpm Hard Drive
48x CD-RW Combo Optical Drive
AC'97 Audio with Dell A215 Stereo Speakers
Intel Extreme 2 Integrated Graphics with 64MB Shared Memory

Tbh those fps sounds about right 15-40 for the above system.

Strongly agree. But should/could the admins of these servers just turn off the spam msg system ?
I'm sure if enough people voiced an opinion to the team hosting/admining they would adjudicate a descision ?

Maybe thats wishful thinking , but so is this part of the forum

Agreed rediske. So many times this happens online someone joins and imediatly asks "what track is this ?"

The same used to occur for fuel, but since the consupmtion display per lap in the garage it happens with much lower frequency now.

I have often "felt" sometimes things had changed that were not listed (physics) but what particular aspect might have changed or not, i have no idea. Though sometimes its been the balance of a car, sometimes the tyres that i have percieved to have altered.

The only unlisted changes I've noticed is that im slower (and those you mentioned)

Quote from Glenn67 :
On pressure, pressure will expose your true colours I.e. if your supremly confident in your ability and have developed skill in an area, then being under pressure will enable you to perform at your peek. On the other hand if you haven't really done your homework and are at all doubtfull of your ability then pressure will have the reverse effect and most likely cause you to stumble.

Indeed the the 5p rule srpings to mind. "preperation prevents piss poor performance"

Qualifying in racing is a prime example of cofidnece/pressure and how you utilise it.
